I know I haven't been blogging much but... Guess What???

I know I have been non-exsistant on the blog lately but I have a very exciting side project I have been working on that I want you all to know about...

We're having another baby!!!!

Yes, its true! I sit here; exhausted, nauseous, feeling constipated and like I need to bolt to the loo with the runs at the same time... I can't stomach anything that resembles healthy food and all I crave is cheese burgers, hot chips, cheese and bread! YES!!!! ITS YUCK! So they are just a few reasons I have been off the blog... I just haven't felt like I have had anything great to say... I AM TIRED, UNINSPIRED AND READY TO GET SOME ENERGY BACK!

Believe me when I say; I want to want a nice piece of grilled salmon, green salad with a green juice but when I think about it I heave. While I have been feeling over the top excited for the new addition in our lives, I am coming to terms with the fact it is alot harder to sit on the couch and ride out who-called-it-morning-sickness-its-all-the-time-sickness when running after and entertaining an energetic toddler! I feel like a pubescent teenager with pimples, tears, more pimples and more tears! How is it possible to find something to cry about everyday?

To say the least, it has been a struggle to get my act together and cook anything decent and with my husband away so much with work I am on my own, so little P has been my little ray of sunshine and she does such an amazing job at that!

I am not writing all this blubber to get your sympathy (although its fine if you want to give me a little, lol), I am writing all this because I know it is hard sometimes to get your health mojo and every day isn't going to be a perfect day! I have found it really hard in the past months and really have beaten myself up about not eating as healthy as I feel I should be... The turning point for me was when I told me yoga instructor I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago and she asked how I was going. I told her how awful I felt and she said so firmly; "That's ok! Our bodies talk to us in so many different ways and sometimes we need to accept those feelings and just let them be"... I know this stuff! But I needed someone to tell me to chill out, accept whats going on and ride through how I am feeling! It was a turning point! If I need to rest, I put on some Teletubbies on for Pia and we sit on the couch, have a cuddle and rest. Its important for us to listen to our bodies and give it what it needs sometimes and be aware its not forever! It is more toxic to us to feel bad for things than to just do it and enjoy it...

So BRING IT ON! I would love to get this second trimester burst of energy that everyone talks about now and heres to enjoying a bit of bread and butter and laying on the couch under a blanket watching repeats of The Good Wife on TV for not too much longer!

What were your cravings while pregnant? What did you do to feel better?

TOXIC FREE FIND: EverEscents Organic Berry Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner + A GIVEAWAY

Source
So who said Blondes cant be Blonde forever! I wont lie... I have been one to sit in hair salons for hours while breathing in the toxic fumes of chemicals, my eyes burning and just telling the hair dresser to leave it on as long as they can... Wishing and praying that the burning on my scalp isn't going to break all my hair off and me walk out of the salon with no hair left! Yes, that was me! I like my blonde hair, I like it really toned and I want to walk out with it very grey and almost purple. Then I would stock up on all the expensive purple, Toning shampoos full of toxic dies, that I would wash my hair in everyday. Then blow dry the crap out of it and wonder why my hair was so thin and breaking off.

So now, being on this new straight, narrow and healthy path I thought I had to kick this being blonde addiction! Well, I  DONT!
I FOUND A PURPLE, TONING SHAMPOO and CONDITIONER that is ORGANIC, NATURAL, AND WITH NO CRAZY TOXIC DIES! Don't believe me? Check this out! EverEscents has created a shampoo and conditioner that is actually coloured with berries, sound beautiful doesnt it! You have to check it out. I have been using it for the last month and it is just beautiful and it really works as a toner too. Having blonde hair is drying... And these beautiful products help to rehydrate and keep your blonde luscious locks as they should be. My hair has started growing again, its getting thicker and the smell is just amazing! The conditioner... WOW! When only using a very small amount, it makes the hair so smooth and silky! Scary Food Additive you need to know about: MSG

source

Guest Post by Tanya Winfield - Additive Free Expert
MSG also known as flavour enhancer is found in thousands and thousands of products. Here is some information that will hopefully make to stop and read the ingredient listing when making your next purchase at the supermarket.

Additives that always contain MSG

Monosodium glutamate                   Calcium caseinate
Hydrolysed vegetable protein         Hydrolysed protein
Hydrolysed plant protein                  Autolyzed yeast
Plant protein extracts                       Sodium caseinate
Yeast extracts                                    Textured protein
Potassium Glutamate                           Hydrolysed oat flour
Hydrolysed (anything else)

Additives that may frequently contain MSG

Malt extracts                                             Malt flavour
Bouillon                                                     Broth
Stock                                                         Flavouring
Natural flavouring                                    Seasoning
Natural beef or chicken flavouring

The effects of consuming MSG are:

Asthma, hyperactivity, depression, mood changes, sleeplessness, nausea, migraine, linked to infertility, teratogen, convulsions and abdominal discomfort.

source
Since consumers are becoming aware of MSG, manufacturers are cleverly using other non-regulated ingredients. These ingredients allow manufacturers to still get the MSG effect on the flavour of their product, but these ingredients are still high in the excitotoxic processed free glutamate. One of the most popular ingredients used as a substitute for MSG is Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein.

Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein (HVP) is a concentrated form of natural MSG that is now often used by manufacturers instead of MSG as a way around consumer concern. Often, products with high amounts of HVP boldly market themselves as “MSG free” to attract consumers who are unaware that HVP contains high concentrations of glutamates & has the same effects as MSG.
HVP is made from junk vegetables selected for their high quantity of excitotoxcins (glutamate). The vegetables are boiled in a vat of sulphuric acid for several hours then the acid is neutralised with caustic soda. The brown sludge is scraped off the top & dried into a powder. The powder contains known carcinogens & dicarboxylic acid, the safety of which is unknown. MSG is often added to this powder. Finally, the powder is put in our food, including baby food, and we eat it.

10 Tips for Living Additive Free!

source
Guest Post by Tanya Winfield - Additive Free Expert

Practical Tips
10 Tips for Living Additive Free!
1. Shop regularly
Whether you shop weekly or fortnightly it helps to have your pantry stocked with all of the foods that you know are a healthy choice for your family.
2. Get organised
Being organised with recipes, ideas and shopping makes for an easy life. Think ahead to meals and functions that you will be attending. Know what you are cooking and the ingredients needed to make the meal.
3. Be prepared
If you know you are going to be out all day, take some healthy options for your family. Think ahead to the kind of foods available to you at your destination and if you are not sure of the quality, then take your own. I always take food or snacks for my kids where ever we go…then there is no excuse to buy foods that may create little monsters for the rest of the day.
4. Have a meal in the freezer
There is always a frozen dinner in my freezer for days where I have no desire or time to cook. These meals are something that I have cooked and had leftover or made just for the purpose of freezing for a later date. This can make life a lot easier when you have had an extremely hectic day with errands, work and after school activities.

5. Talk to your children
Have an open conversation with your children about why you have chosen to feed them food without nasty additives. At the time I sat down my then 6 year old to explain why he would no longer eat Cheerios for breakfast. He was sad for a bit, but understood that I wanted to protect him from the additives that can cause him to have an asthma attack. My children know that I do what I do because I want them to be as healthy as they can be and to understand that knowledge is power. You can only do better if you know better.
6. Teach your family
Teach your family to read the labels on food items. Help them understand what to look for when reading a label. Reading the ingredient listing is key. Printing “No Added Colours and Flavours” on the front of a label does not make it a product free of preservatives or free of nasty “natural” colours and flavours.
7. Know your products
Know the products that are safe to buy or to make your shopping experience a little easier why not purchase Additive-Free Pantry Shopping Guide. This guide was created to help make a grocery trip a little less painful. Additive Free Shopping Guide can be purchased via this website.
8. Stay focused
Stay focused; keep your eye on the prize…healthy children. Remember why you started an additive free diet. I started because I had a child with asthma, then I learnt so much more. The benefits defiantly outweigh the obstacles. To raise children that are calm, happy and healthy is so much more important to me than throwing my hands up and saying this is too hard. It is for the love of my children that I choose feed our family additive free foods.
9. Newsletters
Join up to websites that are like minded that have newsletters. Knowledge is power and there is so much to learn in life. When you are receiving information from businesses or companies that share
similar interests there is an unlimited amount of knowledge and resources at your fingertips.
10. Support
Gather your support from family and friends that are doing the same thing. Invite like minded people over for BBQ’s and dinner parties. Having friends and family that support your choices make for an easy transition. Most of all remember to be proud of yourself – only the committed will make such a change to their lifestyle.
