Just a few changes... No biggie!

You may of noticed a few changes around here, we have a new name; a shortened, more bang, give it to me baby, name... I believe! Not a huge different to you but a huge one to me!

This blog is a big journey for me as I share whats happening in our lives and the research I find to assist others to live a happy and healthy life for themselves and their families. It has changed alot since we begun just over a year ago and I'm not 100% where it is going but its fun sharing inspiration for health, wellbeing and happiness to all you lovely friends out there as well as sharing the everyday realism of life as a mum.

I have been looking at our blog name for quite a while now and it was just TOO LONG! People would ask me what the name was and I would feel like I was writing them an essay just to get the words out. The other reason was that I feel that the last bit was being lost in the name and people were just calling us; "Choose life"... Well yes, that was the start of our name but it wasn't just it... I have always said to myself I love the WHOLE name as it is telling readers (and myself) to get out there and just DO IT!!!!! Don't get lost in the negatives of how things may turn out, just go and try it and see how it goes, there is nothing to loose when the passion is their, within you!
So "choose life" didn't cut it for me, it sounded a little cheesy and I felt the point of what we are all about, wasn't there. So after a major overtired-mumma-meltdown, when all the kiddies went to bed, I started my all-night* journey of name changing... Why wait? Why think? In my own words; just do it! Knowing that I cant stop something until I'm finished I got there in the end and I am so so happy.

So from now on; you can call us; "LIVE IT. DO IT!" ... That's it, just short and simple, full of life, ready to party, go-getters! Living a life that we love!

Tuesday Chats: Amy from Learning to F.L.Y + her recipe for an amazing Raw coco-berry tart

  • Tell us a bit about yourself and your business. How did it all start?
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity Cass, I love your beautiful online space and feel so blessed to share my story with everyone here. I’m a 27 year old health nut-foodie-spirit junkie from Melbourne, I’m so incredibly grateful for this life of mine and ready to step up and live in a way that can inspire others to live their best lives imaginable and most importantly a life that is right for them!  I’m not sure this journey really had an exact starting point, every event to fine detail brought me to doing what I am and it is all developing and growing every day. I am currently a third year Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Student and also studying with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to become a holistic health coach. I have such a love for healing and helping people and this has all grown from going through my own emotional, weight and health issues and searching for that healthy balance. To still be learning and expanding my knowledge on what works for me, I want to be here for others to guide them through the same process.

I'm a huge believer in intuitive eating. What works for you won't necessarily work for someone else. Same goes in life, what works for one person won't always tick the boxes for you in your own personal growth. My blog Learning to F.L.Y first love yourself came about as a place I could share my journey with people. I came to realise at this point in my life that my ability to be my best self, to have the most loving relationship, to be the best friend I can be, to make the most loving and nurturing food choices all comes from loving myself first. To say yes to my biggest and wildest dreams, to care enough about my body to fuel it with nourishing and natural food, the core of this was finding my own self worth and love for myself.

Everyday we make choices, I want people to step up, to choose love, unconditional crazy mad love for THEM!

  • What’s the biggest nutrition misconception you are always having to clear up for people?
Just because it worked for one person doesn’t mean it will work for you. There is so much information out there on health and wellness, and often when it comes to the science there is always a study to completely contradict another on the same topic. There is no magic pill and there are rarely quick fixes, people need to start making healthier life choices every day.

  • Do you have any advice or inspiration to send out to any of our readers that are thinking about starting a healthier way of living???
It’s all about getting back to basics and honoring what feels right for you. The stage you are at of your health journey will be unique to where you are at . You may be at the very beginning and totally overwhelmed. You may know what is healthy but don’t know how to implement it in your life. Don’t let it get you down. I’d love to help where I can and where I can’t to connect you with someone who can.
At the end of the day Cass, you sum it up so well…

I want people to know It’s up to them to find the answers they need, to make new choices to live a healthier life. It is ok to ask for help! Xx

  • What are your non-negotiables when it comes to your diet and/or skincare?

I will never touch anything that says low-fat. I try to eat as natural as I can, so mostly fruit and veg and stuff I make from scratch at home but low-fat is a big no-no. Low fat is a big fat con, sugar converts to fat and often these products are full of sugar. Skincare for me has to be natural, I steer away from as many chemicals as I can, I adore the Jacqueline Evans range. As a woman a massive non-negotiable for me is using organic tampons. I was horrified the day I found out that most tampons have a list of ‘ingredients’. I use the TOM organic range.

  • We understand that you strive to motivate others to be the best they can be; where do you get your drive?
I lived too many years of my life, being a total drama queen, feeling completely sorry for myself and the things that had happened to me. The day I realised I had a choice to live life another way. To learn and grow from those experiences, that I am not my past I was set free. I want to make a change for generations to come, I’m just not comfortable with sitting back and settling for anything less than my wildest dreams and at the very least I will know I tried. I want this for everyone.

  • If you had half an hour to cook dinner and realised you didn’t have anything planned, what would you cook?
Eggs, Avocado and sweet potato are staples in my house. I often poach a couple of eggs, scoop out half an Avo and bake some sweet potato. Simple and so yum!

  • What’s your favourite juice or smoothie?
I love my juices. Orange, carrot, apple, ginger, lemon. - zing!

  • What is your favourite live by affirmation, mantra or quote?
I have many but my absolute fave is ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world’ Gandhi

  • Do you have a recipe you would like to share with us today?
Do I ever, I made this one especially for you guys!

Raw Coco-Berry Tart

To start you will need a food processor of some kind, and two little tart cases. I purchased metal ones for $3 each from one of those house and kitchen shops. You can get them with bases that pop out which make pushing the tart out much easier.

130g Raw almonds
7 Medjool dates
1 tablespoon of Cacao Powder

Blitz all ingredients in your food processor together to make a sticky, rough consistency. The power and size of your food processor while determine the time this will take. You want to be able to press it in to the tin to cover the base and sides. Once pressed in the tart cases put these in the fridge for half an hour to harden.

(Clean your food processor)

2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil/butter
2 teaspoons honey
3 cups of desiccated coconut
4 tablespoons of Coconut Cream

Blitz all ingredients in your food processor together to make what I can only describe as like the inside of a bounty. It won’t be creamy, but soft and fluffy.

Take your crusts from the fridge and spoon the coconut mix in to the crusts. Press coconut mix firmly and fill to the top of each tart. Put back in the fridge for an hour or so.

Serve with your favourite berries and sprinkle with Cacao powder.

Lastly; Where can we find you?

5 days with EAT FIT FOOD

My baby is now 12 weeks old (were not going to talk in months yet, thats just too scary) and its time to pull my finger out... Still 20 kgs too heavy (I know, its not good!!!), this post baby body is not shredding the left overs as I'd hoped. The lady handles and the double chin seems to be hanging around for some reason and that reason is simple; I EAT TOO MUCH! I love food, oh man do I love food and not having as much time as I had in the past trying to organise meals properly I may not eat for a little while and then when I do eat, I eat a bit too much... And that is also not good. When on the road to loose a few its all about portion sizes, regular eating of portions that aren't enormous but totally satisfying. And that is where Eat Fit Food comes in; Eat fit food deliver fresh, wholesome, pumped-with-goodness, gourmet, tastes-brilliant, real food to your doorstep! Sounds pretty amazing doesn't it? Well, thats because it is! Last week I did their 5 day cleanse, but it didn't feel like cleansing, it felt like indulging as all their food is so yummy! I even got treated to bliss balls and raw carrot cake some days. All meals are gluten, dairy, refined sugar and red meat free. They are set in good sized portions to give you 1 nourishing veggie juice, 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. And have I told you its yummy???

So here's the run down...

Eat fit food gets delivered to your doorstep in these cool little cooler bags with meals rocking and ready to go!

Day 1
Wow! Delicious much?
Started the day with a cleansing and nourishing veggie juice then it was scrambled eggs, mushrooms and baby spinach on gluten free toast, tofu Raman noodles for lunch and a huge piece of oven baked salmon on sweet potato and greens for din din. Not to mention the snacks in between of beet root dip with little tree (cauliflower and broccoli) dippers..
I feel good, although I didn't think I would feel like this but I am craving something sweet for desert, pretty bad so I have downed an extra litre of lemon water and now headed for a lavender bath and then off to bed for an early night.
Day 2
Yummy yummy brekky, I absolutely love porridge and breakfast today was a brown rice and quinoa porridge, so delish!
Lunch was a nourishing soup of carrot and cauliflower and dinner was a warm chicken salad. All amazing and easy to prepare.
Still craving something sweet but heading to bed early to fight the urge.

Day 3
Day went well. Cravings are slowly leaving me.
morning tea = X2 bliss balls

Day 4
This has been the best day so far. I have more energy and I am not hungry and not thinking about more food which is good. I

Day 5
Cant believe its Friday. The weeks go too quick!
Absolutely Loving the food!
Poached eggs for brekky (my fav), panang curry for lunch and baked fish with a delicious roast veg salad for dinner. Feeling good!

Din Din
What do I think about the Eat Fit Food 5 day cleanse?
I'm giving it a big thumbs up!

It's all about portion control, a bit of self control... And water, you have to drink water! Eat Food food 5 day cleanse does this for you and it has given me a big push in the right direction, I even lost a kg!
I would highly recommend this 5 day program to anyone who needs a kick in the butt to get on the healthy hwy. It is also amazing for anyone on the go who doesn't have time for meal preparation. Its a winner!

Be sure to head over to Eat Fit Food's website and check out the range of programs they have and let your mouth water over their delicious food!

Oh thats right, I put my life on the Internet...

I have been trying to get out and about alot lately in the attempt to save my sanity and tire out an over-excited-and-never-stops-for-a-breath toddler. We have been going to play groups, more play groups, little kickers, parks and more play dates. It's fun and I'm meeting lovely mums in my area.

When I meet people and they ask what I do, I usually just say I'm a stay at home mum, I sometimes tell people I have a little lifestyle shop and very rarely ever tell anyone I have a blog. I like to leave that part for the big wide world of the internet.

To be honest, I get a little self conscious... I mean, if I were to tell them I had a blog then they might read it, how embarrassing!!!! My writing is very primary school, I don't write about many interesting things and I post up pictures of myself of what I was wearing on the weekend, oh and lots of kiddy pictures too...
Some could say I spend countless amount of hours writing about nothing. When I write this blog, I treat it as talking to a journal, not actual people. Actual people wouldn't be interested in my little blog!

So when people come up to me and tell me they have had a look at my little blog I get a little taken back; I get nervous, who am I kidding? I totally freak out inside. Then if they say nice things, I feel really awkward. What the hell am I meant to say? I don't take compliments very easily at the best of times. I usually go quiet and say; "ohhhh no, yeh, um, it's a bit of fun, you know..."
Its a funny feeling; the real fact that I am actually putting my life on the Internet for anyone to read.

It brings me to thinking what this blog really means to me and where it might be going. Really, I should be excited to hear when people have found my little nest of a blog and believe me, I am. So this week I am going to focus on the positive, not worry what people may think of what I write. I wont go quiet, I will just say; "Thank you!"

Do you have a blog? Put your link in the comments below... I want to have a browse!

Real life...

Weeks seem to be passing quickly, my baby is growing up, my toddler is getting more crazy and I look around the house to more washing, more cleaning up, more mess, more winging... Its been one of 'those' weeks. You know those weeks when you look around at your  filthy house and ask yourself; "Is this it? Am I going to be a washing lady forever?"

If you follow me over on instagram you may of seen this photo of poor H babies room covered in CLEAN washing a week ago... It has since been folded and put away and now the floor in the hall way is covered with a similar type of pile. There are toys EVERYWHERE, crumbs all over the floor*, a few spills here and there, a stack of dirty dishes on the sink waiting to be washed up and my couch cushions are airing on the veranda from a wee accident from the toddler that happened yesterday. I could call it chaos but I'm just going to call it; real life.

Please tell me its not just me that feels like this some times, totally overwhelmed to being a mum?
