ADDITIVE FREE OCTOBER

You asked for it... ADDITIVE-FREE-OCTOBER!!!!

SHARE IT AROUND! Sugar free September is over and lots have people have been emailing me asking what they can do next, last year we kept motivated by welcoming #additivefreeoctober... Why not STAY MOTIVATED AND BRING MORE CLEAN EATING INTO YOUR FAMILY! ITS SO EASY TO DO... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL YOUR DEDICATION OVER THE LAST MONTH! IT HAS INSPIRED ME TO KEEP DOING WHAT I'M DOING AND YOU ARE ALL AMAZING!

The good news is that once you have tried sugar free; additive free is easy! You have all become professional Ingredients-list-readers and thats the hardest part. If you are up for the challenge, I would love you to take part!!! I would also highly recommend the additive free shopping list from Additive-Free Pantry. It has lists and lists of every food in each and every supermarket (coles, woolworths, aldi, etc) that you can eat; and yes it includes chips, lollies, ice cream... all the cheeky stuff!

Chemicals added to our foods are such scary things, as our body not only cant digest them, but they totally screw with our children's development, attention, focus and learning!!!! If you haven't involved your children already in a cleaner way of eating, this is definitely one to get them involved! You will notice a different within days!!! I am promising you that you can even create a child's bright colour filled birthday party totally additive free, sacrificing no colour or taste, its just about using the right/clean ingredients!!!! I hope you are going to be involved and help to bring awareness to nasty food additives that our bodies CANT PROCESS and DONT NEED!!!

See you over on instagram...

Weekend Adventures

WOW! What an amazing weekend we had.
On friday afternoon we packed up our essentials, loaded the boat* and headed off for an adventure in the local National Park; The Basin. We have explored this area before on day trips and it is such a perfect spot to lay out a picnic rug, have a BBQ and swim to your hearts content. The water is just amazing, so clear, its like a secret island paradise. If you haven't been there before, I highly recommend getting the family or some friends together and making a day of it.

Never before been camping with children, my husband and I were quietly freaking out but when we got their and our tent was set up, the weekend flew along with breeze and excitement. We woke up to wallabies at our door steps and ducks wandering around; it truly was a children's paradise. Sunny had his very first swim in the ocean and little P spent the weekend with the biggest smile on her face and lots of laughter. It was the family time that we needed; we switched off our phones and enjoyed the simpleness of the coast, it was true bliss!!!!

What have you been up to this school holidays?

The adventures of Sunny Boy and Ballet Girl...

We have successfully reached week 21 without too much crazy being a family of 4. From the moment little P set her eyes on her baby bro, she was in total obsession and full of over powering love for the little guy that she was to call her brother. Her love is so precious and I treasure that, it also sends me crazy as I am always waiting out for her next move of love that may smother her baby brother... It can be trying and she has been getting more of her 'crazy mum' that usual.

And now, after 20 weeks, time has caught up of her, she has had enough of her new toy, her brother is getting more attention and she would like him to go away. She loves him to the end of the moon and back, I really know she does but its all catching up on her and the beautiful girl that she is, is becoming quite the emotional 2 year old.
SO this week, we have been focusing on the fun! Little P wants to dress in a "ballet dress" (aka; any dress with frills that spins with her but this one is her favourite at the moment) everyday and she dancers all day long. We have been heading out in the sunshine and making the most of the days, no stress, just the best parts of the sea breeze and not too many "No's!"

How do you help your children through the transition???

CAss xo

My children are dressed in the pictures above by Eeni Meeni Miini Moh. P is in LOVE with this Cap Dress and I can see Sunny living in this little playsuit through summer. Eeni Meeni Miini Moh clothes and accessories are to die for, only made with the best materials, and such amazing designs. Its hard not to fall in love with what they have to offer. I would definitely recommend browsing the Eeni Meeni Miini Moh online store!!! More info: http://www.eenimeeni.com/

Making your life easier... WIN a Cuisinart Hot and Cold All-in-One Blender

It seems that at the moment the average blender is just not cutting it for most; everyone is looking for simple ways to make life easier finding products that use less time, less work, and less cleaning up. Instead of reaching for the number of the closest takeaway shop; lots more people are looking for a healthier approach and we are lucky that brands like Cuisnart are bringing us products that can help us all to achieve this.

I am the first one to admit that when it hits dinnertime, I am so tired and feeding a hungry young family is hard work if I’m not prepared. In the last few weeks I have had the opportunity to try out the one and only hot and cold blender from Cuisinart. That’s right; it works hot and cold meaning you can make yummy hot meals as well as your average green smoothie. Wondering if it really does what it says it does; I have been putting it to the test in my busy kitchen and I am very surprised and impressed. So it says it cooks, chops as well as blends so I have given you some examples of this above.

Blends: YES!!!
A lot of blenders find it hard to grind greens down into a smooth green smoothie.  Although the Cuisinart did a fab job; I used speed 4 to get it going and in seconds it was perfect!

Chops: YES!!!
On this occasion; I need onions, garlic and parsley chopped. I quartered the onion and added the other things in whole and put it on blend and it chopped this very nicely.

Cooks: YES!!!
This is pretty amazing! You throw your veggies in the blender with some bone broth or water, set timer and heat and you can boil, steam and simmer until they are cooked to perfection. If you want to make it into a mash, pure or soup; once it is cooked, you just turn the switch to blend and there it goes. This has been awesome and I can see this machine coming in very handy as we start making truck loads of baby food.

Another great feature is that it cleans itself; you just put some water and dish washing liquid and turn it on and it does its magic! Sounds pretty cool huh? Here are some more details from Cuisinart.

RECIPE: Boobie Bickies

Gluten/wheat/dairy free

Like any new mum, my first few months after having our baby have been quite draining (literally). New babies are wonderful but with every feed they are slowly sucking the energy out of us mums and if we don't look after ourselves then we cant look after them. That is why we should always look after ourselves first, this can be a challenge as its in our nature as mums to put others first. But the truth is if we fall off the track then the rest of the train will too. Our children need their mums to be present, healthy and their to feed them.
About a month ago I did let things get the better of me; I was staying up way too late and doing way too much. What suffered most? The meal chain for my baby!!!! The babe was crying and my supply started to dwindle simply because I was too tired. I made a commitment to myself (and my husband) that I would stop for a moment and allow things to get back into working order. No more staying up too late, no pressure and time to relax and eat foods to assist in bringing my milk supply back to tip top working order. A great treat and milk booster are "boobie Bickies"; biscuits that are full of the right nutrients to boost milk supply; the most important being brewers yeast and oats. This is the recipe I came up with, it makes a million (who can be bothered cooking too often as a new mum) so keep them in an air tight container and enjoy a couple at a time with a cup of tea (dandelion is my fave). These biscuits are also a great gift to surprise a new mum with too.

Ingredients
250 grams cultured butter or coconut oil
1 & 1/2 cups maple syrup
10 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons flaxseed meal (can be found at any local health food store)
2 Tbls chia seeds
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional, for flavour)
1 cup almond meal
1 cup dedicated coconut
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups oats
1 cup or more of dried apricot (sulphur free), chopped finely
2-4 tablespoons of brewers yeast (this is the magic ingredient – not to be confused with bakers yeast or any other yeast)

Method:
Put flax meal and chia seeds in the water, stir and set aside for 10 mins
In a blender or food processor Cream butter/coconut oil and maple syrup together.
Add eggs and keep beating, then add flax/chia mix.
In another bowl combine all dry ingredients.
Once wet mixture is well combined, add it to the dry mixture and stir stir stir making sure everything is very well combined.
Now, roll biscuits into teaspoon sized balls and lay out onto tray. I like to squash them flat.

Bake for 10-20 minutes or until golden brown at 180 degrees.

Enjoy!

WEARING: Dressing my feet for Spring

Lately I have been wearing some what of a uniform; the same pants, same boring T shirts and sandals. The main reason is that I have a very limited wardrobe that fits me in this post baby faze of my life and I refuse to give in too much to buying any clothes to make myself too comfortable.
SO I have been swapping between my big harem pants and these jeans. Switching between a few different tops, mostly black in the attempt to disguise the huge chest that I have been (not-so) blessed with as of late.

One part of my body that hasn't changed too much is my feet! So instead of getting bored in the slump of the same I thought I would pretty my feet up with some bright Spring shoes from Ziera! HOORAY! I have to tell you that Ziera shoes have it right when it comes to fitting feet, they want you to look good as well as feel amazing and they will not let you leave their store with a shoe that doesn't fit to perfection. By providing you with the perfect fit they are looking after your hips, back and body as a whole, most of their shoes can even fit orthotics. This is a win for my (very) wide feet that aren't easy to fit.

Whats very cool is that Ziera Shoes has teamed up with not-for-profit Dress for Success, Ziera will donate $1 from every pair of shoes sold or $10K – whichever is higher – to Dress for Success from today; September 21 until October 4. Awesome!

I think thats a great reason to put some new Spring time soles on those feet of yours! Hope your having a lovely saturday!

We're going on a big adventure - WilderQuest Style + WIN a $280 adventure pack!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED!

CONGRATULATIONS TO JULIE SMITH!

SPONSORED POST BY WILDERQUEST

Growing up on the Far South Coast of NSW and then finishing High school in the Snowy Mountains, one would think that National Parks have been a huge part of my life.

And they have, some of my fondest childhood memories are trips into the bush with my classmates; hiking, camping, swimming, snowboarding, snow shoeing and even building an igloo in some of the most beautiful National Parks that cover the South East of Australia.
I have walked 36 km's in 3 days with everything I needed on my back down in Ben Boyd National Park doing the Tower-to-Tower walk when I was 14. I camped in the snow; we kept warm sipping on hot chocolates and chatted all night long. We did day trips out to Saltwater where we enjoyed picnic lunches and swam all day. I had so many fun adventures and I have so many memories to keep with me forever.

But it wasn't always like this for me; my parents weren't really into that kind of dirty outdoorsy stuff. Yes, we spent endless days at the beach and took many trips to the Snowy Mountains to go skiing and Snowboarding, but camping and creepy crawlies was never on my parents to do list. The closest thing to a night camping in the bush for my family was all of us sharing a room in a cheap motel. And if I were to ask to go out bush, then I would be told; "And why would you want to do something silly like that?"
Why would I like to do something silly like that??? Why wouldn't I? Getting outdoors is fun!
Maybe they were scared of the unknown, maybe they had no idea where to start, maybe they just weren't ready for the fun we might all have!

Now, living in the busy life of Sydney and having children of my own, I get it; it's not as easy for us all to venture out. What is easy for a lot of parents is putting the ipad on and passing it to their children to play with... When I became a mum, being the outdoors type, I was NEVER going to let my child touch my phone or the ipad for that matter; it was a no-go zone... I didn't want to breed a "tech-head."
Almost 3 years down the track and giving no introduction to the ipad, my daughter knows how to turn it on and get to a game I didn't even know existed, it’s like technology is bred into them and in today’s society I feel as parents, we need to embrace it.

That is where WilderQuest comes in; a game aimed for kids aged 5-12 years old, that is not only educational but also gets children excited and motivated to get outdoors and explore! It really ignites a love of nature, teaching them all about the world they live in, as well as the native animals, their homes and how to stay safe in our National Parks. WilderQuest gets our children wanting to enjoy what Australia really has to offer, learning and wanting to play outdoors.
WilderQuest has won a number of industry awards including an IAB award for tablet marketing and six AIMIA awards including Best Children’s, Best Learning and Education, Best of the Best Award, Best Non-Profit, Best Application for a Tablet and the Best Tourism and Travel.
WilderQuest is an educational program that recreates nature accurately so that children can really learn while having fun and improving their development through outdoor learning and play. And what’s more, it extends the online experience into the real-world with WilderQuest Discovery tours.

There is nothing more amazing than heading outside with our children, listening to the birds, taking in the sunshine, experiencing the simple things in life and appreciating the country that we live in.

So this school holidays; I encourage you to get your kiddies onto WilderQuest so they can teach you the ropes. Then you can all grab a picnic rug, pack some lunch and venture into a National Park near you!!! We may just see you there; our little family will be heading to the National park for a big adventure and I'm so excited!
