This school holidays, HI-5 are touring Australia. I remember HI-5 when I was younger and my sister was a toddler, she was obsessed with them, I just wanted to grow up and be them. Haha. I loved dancing and singing and thought it would be the coolest job, entertaining little kids. I learnt every word of every song and every movement, I remember that I would perform to my little sister.

Years later, HI-5 are still loved by the kids. When I was offered tickets, I just knew little P would love it and the little man would go crazy for them. I dragged my husband along too, just because I thought it would be nice to make it a family afternoon out. We took a trip into the city, walked along the waters edge and admired the buildings and the stunning harbour bridge, made our way through Luna Park and into the big top for the show.

When the music started the kids eyes were glued to the stage, the lights, dancing singing and props were so fun and the big smiles that merged were so beautiful to watch, it's moments like these that I really love being a mum! Admiring my little ones faces as they have new experiences, you can see their eyes opening wider and wider.

After interval, I let little P go down the the kids 'mosh pit' (aka the dance section). She was right up the front, with her eyes glued to the stage, dancing, copying the moves, it was so unbelievably cute!!!!
When the show came to an end, she looked up at me, bursting with happiness; "THANK YOU MUM! THAT WAS SO COOL! CAN WE DO THIS AGAIN ONE DAY??" Oh man, I just wanted to squeeze her with love, she was just so happy and had so much fun.

If you have any little ones, I highly recommend checking out the HI-5 HOUSE OF DREAMS show. You can find more info here:

Disclaimer: I was gifted tickets to see the HI-5 house of dreams show but all words and comments are my own. We had such a fun time, I wanted to share it with you. ;)

A perfect day of Family Fun in Manly with Papi Chulo

kids meal

What an amazing day! It's such an incredible feeling to take a deep breathe in and soak in the goodness of a day spent with your family, a perfect day of family fun.

This morning, we took a little drive down to Manly; we packed the scooters and prepared ourselves for a beautiful lunch at Papi Chulo's. We got down to Manly at about 11am, the kids took a scoot on their Globber scooters along the esplanade and we just soaked in the absolutely stunning winter sun. It was so nice to enjoy the view and feel the warmth on our backs. Our house is so cold of late so this felt like such a treat and how funny that it was as simple as just being outside.

Once it hit 12noon, we wandered over to Papi Chulo's to road test their new kids menu. In true whole food Mumma style, I scoped out the menu before hand and it sounded quite good. If you haven't been to Papi Chulo's before, it's definitely worth checking out. It's got an up market, old school diner type feel, its just a really cool place with a sweet vibe. Located metres from the water on Manly Wharf, you get the view of the water to soak in as you smell the ocean and chow down on amazing food.
Known for its delicious array of smokehouse meats, delicious seafood and fun drinks, its just a fun place to be day or night.

We were not disappointed, Andrew ordered the brisket, I had the barbecued king prawns and the kids had grilled barramundi with steamed veg... Now when do you ever see grilled barramundi on a kids menu??? YES, I know!!!!! This made me so happy and all round excited to see a restaurant actually serving up real food for kids. It really kills me when I see pretty much processed, frozen food on kids menus, most adults wouldn't eat it so why serve it up to little ones that we need to nourish?
Both P and Sunshine were in their element, due to their food intolerances, we don't go out much, to be honest, I don't think I have taken the boy out to a restaurant to eat for over a year as it just feels too hard. I loved feeling at ease with the order options on the kids new menu and that they can cater to food intolerances with ease. The staff were so lovely, so helpful and great with the kids. There was colouring pages, crayons and activities on the tables while we were waiting for our meals and us adults enjoyed sipping on a wine while looking over the water. It was just nice and Andrew couldn't stop raving on about the Brisket and how it was the best piece of meat he has EVER eaten! Its safe to say we loved it.

Whats very cool at the moment, is that the kids meals at Papi Chulo's are only $12 and with that, you receive free entry into Manly Sea Life Sanctuary Aquarium and they donate $1 from each meal to support the penguins.

We totally made a day of it, hitting the aquarium after lunch. Isn't it the best seeing your children learning new things and being totally absorbed into sea life? We pointed out and talked about the boats as we walked along the water, up to the aquarium. Then we walked through the aquarium, naming the fish, making crocodile sounds and pretending we were jelly fish. Watching the sharks and sting rays swim over us in the ocean tank is priceless and watching the kids reactions is even better.

What an awesome day it was, just being together, exploring new things, learning and loving. I highly recommend heading down to Manly, this school holidays, have a meal at Papi Chulo's and some all round family fun.

Yoga for Mental Wellbeing

Guest Post By Claire Nettley – President of Yoga Australia

Yoga has a history of over 5,000 years claiming to promote physical and mental health, and spiritual growth. It’s no wonder that everyone is getting hooked!

President of Yoga Australia, Claire Nettley says, “There are currently thirty million people worldwide practising yoga. At Yoga Australia we have approximately 2,500 registered teachers and research would suggest there are approximately 300,000 people practicing in Australia.”

Yoga is about harmonising and unifying your body, mind and breath. It incorporates physical postures (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, philosophy and much more to cultivate both physical and mental health, as well as a greater sense of self- awareness.
Regular Yoga practice can have a profound affect on your physical, emotional and mental health.

Yoga has been proven to help with anxiety and depression. Research shows that yoga and meditation can help manage the body’s stress response, as it lowers blood pressure, slows breathing and your heart rate. Through various breathing practices, yoga can also improve the respiratory system, making you feel calmer and in-turn better equipping you to deal with external stresses.

Yoga also stimulates the brain and nervous system, which helps improve memory and concentration level. Through the integration of breath, movement and other exercises such as chanting, the mind becomes more focused. We also become more centered, self-aware and neuromuscular function can be improved.

To see the mental health benefits of yoga for yourself, try these poses in the comfort of your own home:

• Legs up the wall pose (Viparita Karani) – Great for grounding and centering. Simply lie on one side in the fetal position with your bottom to the wall, then roll onto your back and extend your legs,
place a pillow under your lower back and relax your arms to either

• Child’s pose (Balasana) – Useful for calming and nurturing. Start by
sitting on your heels, lower your chest and bring your forehead to the floor (or on top of a blanket or your fists if your head doesn’t reach the floor). You can outstretch your arms in front of you with palms on the floor or bring your arms to your sides with palms facing up. If your bottom doesn’t reach your heels, place a blanket or two in between for extra support.

• Corpse pose (Savasana) – To relax and restore. A simple one, but no yoga session is complete without this final pose. Lie on your back and let the feet fall out to either side, place the arms alongside the body with palms facing up, relax your whole body including the face and let the body feel heavy and allow your breathing to occur naturally. You can always place a bolster or rolled up blanket under the knees of the lower back is a bit tender.

This Sunday, 21st June, yogis from around the nation will come together to celebrate the first annual United Nations Yoga Day. Yoga Australia will be part of this celebration at the official UN World Yoga Day event at Bondi Pavilion. The official event program includes: yoga classes, meditation sessions, wellbeing workshops, panel discussions, a colourful marketplace and delicious food. To get tickets to the official event go to:

Yoga Australia will also be hosting events across the nation to mark this significant occasion in the yoga calendar. For more details on local events near you, go to:

When It’s Okay to Interfere With your Partners Health Regime

It’s a fact that women live longer than men, but this week is not about our health it’s about men’s with International Men’s Health Awareness Week. In light of this we spoke with Steve Eddey, Principal of Health Schools Australia who tells us why it might be reasonable to suggest, include or interfere with our partner’s nutrition for optimal fertility.

When it comes to baby making, it takes two to tango! Often women take control of their health when trying for a baby. This may include a nutrition make over and inclusion of a range of key supplements such as iron, iodine and folic acid. However, it’s not just the health profile of the female’s egg which will promote conception; the man’s sperm similarly need to be strong swimmers for success in the fertility race.

Statistics reveal that one in six couples in Australia and New Zealand suffers from infertility  and about eight per cent of men seek help for this . More than a third of men aged over 40 years report having one or more reproductive health problems, all being more common amongst older men.

If your partner is less proactive about their sperm health, there are a few dietary and lifestyle measures you can take to ensure their swimmers are ready to race. Steve recommends the following tips to improve the health of male sperm:

Within the context of this article this suggestion may be inappropriate but I am suggesting, Brazil nuts! Brazil nuts are a rich source of selenium which is vital for normal sperm production. This is an easy one to include in his diet and consuming at least two a day can help achieve the recommended daily intake to help improve the quality of sperm.

Published in the Journal of Urology, a study involving 228 men with unexplained sperm problems contributing to infertility (including poor sperm numbers, low movement and abnormally shaped sperm) were treated in a double blind, placebo controlled, randomised study using the supplement, Ubiquinol.    Results showed that Ubiquinol significantly improved sperm count in more than 62 per cent of men, the number of mobile sperm also increased significantly in 57 per cent of participants and the percentage of normally shaped sperm also improved in 52 per cent of men who took Ubiquinol as compared to placebo. Although Ubiquinol is found in foods such as sardines, spinach, peanuts and chicken; you would need to consume a sufficient amount to receive the minimum daily intake.

Not just found in orange juice but in a range of foods including, broccoli, citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, cabbage and kale; Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant found in the testes. Vitamin C has been shown to help improve sperm motility. This is important for sperm that clump together and have difficulty swimming .

We know how important folic acid is for women trying to conceive but it is equally important for men to support sperm development and maturation. According to research published in Human Reproduction, a significant relationship between daily folate intake and lower frequencies of sperm aneuploidy (abnormal number of chromosomes) were found. Folate can be found in a number of foods such as asparagus, broccoli, spinach, bananas, strawberries, chickpeas and lentils. Folic acid can also be taken via supplementation.

Surely your partner can’t get upset with you for wanting to instigate more sex. It is said that daily sex for a week can improve the genetic quality of sperm.  In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association research found that men who ejaculated at least 21 times a month experienced better outcomes in terms of prostate health later in life in comparison to men who ejaculated less. So not only is sex beneficial for baby making but is important for male health for years to come.

Let's be grateful for the good!

Lately I've been seeing blog posts or social media posts pop up about how hard parenting is and how awful someone's kids are, how naggy or wingy someone's day was or a never ending tantrum, a snarly look they may of received from a fellow mum or negative comments they heard about their parenting from a passer by. I understand blogging or social media in general can be an outlet and I won't pretend I haven't done it myself. We all know as mums that parenting is hard work!!! It's a 24 hour a day job that doesn't go away, you can't switch it off, you can't sign out, you are there with your babies to give them a world to grow. You are their life line for at least 18 years, you are it, and you did it, you created them!

So why is it that mums dwell on the negativity and the hard times instead of celebrating the amazing little creatures that they are? Celebrate the fact that as mums, we are pretty dam amazing to actually team up with our chosen partner and grow something that incredible!

Tell me I'm still stuck in my holiday away from my kids bubble but why do so many mums care so much about the look someone may have given them across the supermarket or the older lady that shook her head at them as their child was screaming at the check out? Why is it important to any mum what anyone else thinks about the way they parent? It's knowone else's business but their own.

Over the past week I've made time to chill my mind and just watch my kids, be with them and admire their little personalities, talk with them, ask them questions and be really interested in what they have to say. I've watched how they get excited about things and listened more when they are upset. They are just beautiful, gorgeous and perfect in every single way and I want to squeeze them with love. I've noticed more of what they love doing for fun as they laugh, watched as their tiny bellies chuckle. The way they say their words or ask questions can be just funny and adorably cute. They are little people and they are growing up even better than I could of imagined.

These little people are part of us and we are their to nurture and guide them through a life of positivity and build them up to be brilliant so when I see posts that put kids down or paint them in a picture that just isn't nice it makes me pretty angry because writing about them on the internet is beginning their online story, the internet isn't the best place to vent about our children because once it's on the web it's there forever!

I'm voting for a change in content, I don't want to see negative attacks on kids, I don't want to see them being made a joke out of, I want us all to sprinkle them with love. I know it's nice sometimes to hear that life is not perfect for everyone but it's also nice to appreciate the simple things that our children bring to our lives and share our love for them in inspiring ways. If we need to vent about our children, let's pick up the phone and call a good friend not plaster the details all over the Internet. I want to see positive, inspiring, sopping with happiness and joy type of love posts about our kids! We know that mum life is not all roses but let's try to switch our minds to seeing the positives in our day, the really simple but beautiful, only a mum can see stuff!

Let's stop talking about how hard things are and be grateful at just how beautiful these little guys are that we are so privelidged to hang out with all day. We all had kids because we wanted them, let's enjoy them and share how much we love them! It may even brighten up a fellow mums day, good energy is contagious!

So what is the cutest thing your little one does? What is their favourite thing to do?

It was daddy Michelin's birthday on Saturday and with princess P and I In charge, we thought it was only fit to have a tea party because that's what all daddy's want right? Haha.

I went on an overseas holiday without my kids - 10 lessons I learnt

Article written for Mother and Baby Magazine Australia

One night, a great friend of mine, and my husband and I were sitting around the dinner table chatting about life.
After a quick 20 minutes into our conversation we were talking about holidays and 30 minutes later I was booking a child-free, girls-only overseas holiday.
In that whirlwind moment that my husband said it was a great idea, my girlfriend and I booked our flights and started planning an unforgetable adventure around Europe.
My friend - who has no children and not much holding her back - began prepping me for the trip of a lifetime. I was so excited to jump on board the train of minimal responsibility and youth!
I’ve just arrived home from that crazy adventure and loved every minute of fun, finding myself again and just being me; kid-free!
Here are 10 things I've learnt from leaving them behind:

More Energy Now with Arborvitae

As most of you know by now, I am a mum on a mission to raise holistically healthy kids while leading by example and looking after myself the best I can. I aim high. I don’t listen to the media. And I like real, nourishing food,no junk!
My main aim as a mum to two small children is to build their immune systems up the best that I can, through minimizing the crap that goes into their clean little bodies. I also want to feel good; I want to live a long and healthy life with them. I don’t want to go through life feeling below average; I want to be bouncing through, enjoying as much as I can and feel great!
My family has been through quite a journey and I have had times when I have lost myself along the way. Only 1 year ago, I was battling a major weight issue and thyroid condition that I couldn’t seem to do anything about, no matter how hard I tried. I felt disgusting, I was tired, heavy and couldn’t do my job well, I wasn’t being a good mum because I wasn’t looking after myself. I was a whole-foodie, I wanted food to fix me, I didn’t want to know about supplements, I was in denial.
It took me a while to get over myself and get myself to a holistic doctor but when I did, things changed. She explained to me the nutrients I was lacking and why I needed to take something extra to boost me up and get me back to feeling good. I had to stop beating myself up about why things weren’t changing and surrender to the fact that most of the time we need a bit extra.
Fast forward 12 months, I take about 7 different supplements a day and I am feeling good. Hah. Right now I need this stuff to function well and I’m ok with that. I’m learning more about how supplements really benefit us and as Mums we need to put ourselves first to do the best job we can for our kids.
One thing that comes with a thyroid condition is inflammation, that feeling of being puffy. Its not nice, especially when you’re trying to loose weight. I’m always looking for new things to try and assist in my own healing journey as well as things that can benefit mums to feeling the best version of them.
Recently I have been introduced to Arborvitae. It’s a new health and wellbeing supplement that is designed to assist the body to neutralise many of the negative health effects of today's lifestyle. And lets face it; in today’s society we all carry a huge amount of toxicity that we would not even know about.
Arborvitae assists the body to rid itself of waste and toxins associated with bad eating habits, consumption of processed foods, smoking and drinking. Due to the powerful nature of the ingredients and the way they are combined, Arborvitae enters the bloodstream within 10 minutes and immediately goes to work in many ways. Amazing!

For the past month, I have been taking 30mls of Arborvitae every morning with my breakfast. The taste is good and it’s easy to remember to take as I sit it next to the kettle. If you have a chronic condition you can take 50ml with breakfast and then again at dinner.
Arborvitae is a daily supplement that can normalize blood glucose levels and reduces inflammation at a cellular level; this means if it is taken consistently, it can help a healthy person to prevent chronic illnesses as well.
What I love about this product is that people are seeing and feeling dramatic improvements in their pre-existing conditions. Blood tests don’t lie and the results are clear on paper for a lot of these people. This makes me really happy, as I am all for health supplements that actually will improve your health as I have experienced through my own health journey and Arborvitae’s formulation are based on years of testing and research into the impact of inflammation in the human body.

To give you some nitty gritty, my research shows that Arborvitae:

·      Removes free radicals
·      Introduces powerful anti oxidants
·      Strengthens blood vessels
·      Raises the level of NO in the bloodstream
·      Contains vitamins that are fully absorbed into the bloodstream
·      Supports the health and function of the immune system
·      Reduces inflammation at cellular level - this type of inflammation is associated with many of today's chronic conditions such as Diabetes,.
·      Helps normalise blood glucose levels in healthy individuals

The supplement contains no dairy or starch and is packed with French Maritime Pine  Bark Extract (the wonder ingredient) along with the highly respected juice from Aloe Vera; another glory juice that is said to be a superfood.
For me, it’s been energy. As a mum of a crazy toddler and a super slow thyroid (not sure which one is worse), I have days that are good and days that are not so good, nights that I get sleep and nights that it’s minimal. I have found that this past month I have been taking Arborvitae; I have had steadily high energy levels, I want to get up and dance with my kids and bounce off the walls with them instead of screaming at them to chill out. Its fun to be having fun! I highly recommend everyone have a look at this product.

Triumph Find The One - 4 Bras that every woman with larger busts should have!

If you were "blessed" with big breasts you know what I mean when I say that finding a bra that fits well and comfortable is a pain in the behind. Its not a fun experience to go bra shopping with your girlfriends when every 'nice' bra in the shop isn't in your size and you are left with basket ball nets that make your boobs look like that are either enormous  or tee pee's. Being a woman myself with a chest that is a curse of droopy, heavy, stocking type things, I haven't had fun in the bra department at the shops.
I'm really excited to share with you that Triumph have a brilliant range of bra's for everyone and they are all pretty. I've been wearing triumph bras for the past few weeks and they are so comfortable, I can't stop raving about them to everyone. Comfort for me is key and having something that looks nice is always a winner as its just nice to feel that bit pretty.

Besides the fact that I love Triumph's range of bra's for women of every shape and size, I absolutely love the that Triumph has created an animation that brings to life the magic of finding the perfectly fitting bra with the first ever cartoon model. Its adorable and it makes it fun, and lets be honest mums; finding "the one", the perfect bra is like finding gold right?

Triumph is excited to announce the launch of its Find the One short animated movie that brings to life the magical, fulfilling experience of finding the perfect fitting bra. Created to accompany the Find the One campaign, the movie uses animation to tell the emotional story of finding the right bra in a beautiful and innovative way. Not only is animation very of the moment, its use in this context is groundbreaking: it is the first time a lingerie brand has used this format to convey the life changing experience of finding the right bra and the first time it has animated one of its models.

Nicola Hodgson, Head of Brand at Triumph says: ‘It is really important for us to find new ways of bringing to life the bra finding journey so that we continue to inspire customers to go for a bra fitting. By transforming our global model, Hannah, into a cartoon we are treading new ground and by doing so, we aim to create a compelling visual experience that captures the magical feeling of finding the right bra that transforms your life – “The One.”’
The animation follows the animated Hannah and her two friends – Mara and Tammy – on a captivating journey to finding “The One”, and features the wondrous moment that Hannah finally finds it. Playing on the classic fairytale search for “The One”, Triumph cleverly exchanges Hannah’s perfect man for her perfect bra. Together with Hannah’s faithful companion, Fred the Frog, the three make a charming bunch who enliven the story of the journey to find “The One.”

Music is central to the animation, carrying the story with a score specially composed for Triumph by Tony award-winning American musical theatre composer, Jason Robert Brown, and the vocal performed by three acclaimed Broadway singers. Prague’s Filmharmonic Orchestra, one of the most sought-after orchestra’s in Europe having worked with everyone from Celine Dion to The Streets, performed the enchanting musical accompaniment.

Ladies, how is YOUR pelvic FLOOR?

Ladies, how is YOUR pelvic FLOOR?

As a mother of 2 with a past history of pelvic floor injury myself I have lived through my fair share of IVE GOTTA PEE!  moments.  Physiotherapists are not immune to pelvic floor dysfunction but we do know how to get rid of one.

I often ask my patientsDo you sprint for the bathroom as soon as the key hits the front door?!  Do you struggle to get home to the bathroom and do you know the location of every public toilet within a 3km radius of your home?  If you're saying YES!to either one of those questions, your pelvic floor probably needs some whipping into shape.

The lovely ladies behind body beyond birth and their beautiful children.
Did you know the pelvic floor is really supposed to be strong enough to hold a good 2+ cups of urine, a baby, and all of your abdominal contents?  I know it can be a boring, taboo or medical blah blah blah but the pelvic floor is really quite an amazing part of your body ladies!  I treat patients with pelvic floor dysfunction who are trying to figure out what to do to get their muscles back into gear.  Im here to tell you, its not so mysterious.  The pelvic floor is just another muscle but it just happens to be, you know, in a private spot. Im going to tell you how to exercise this muscle AND how to make 100% sure that you are doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly.  Listen up

So incontinence, its a REALLY sexy topic right?  NOT!  However, pad ads are trying to make you think its a normal part of being a woman but Im telling you as a woman myself and as a womens health physiotherapistits absolutely NOT ok to pee when you laugh, sneeze, or pick up your kid!  I usually have a cringe when I see those incontinence pad ads that advise you to wear a pad because its normalto have bladder leakage.  Some marketing person has even made up a name for it - light bladder leakage, eeek! its ALL a marketing campaign ladies.

So how do you prevent bladder leakage whether its during a sneeze or during a workout? Its pure and simpleyou exercise the pelvic floor or, as I like to say, the sphincter that holds all the stuff in that you don't want to leak out!

How To Activate the Pelvic Floor- You need to visualise squeezing, lifting and holding the pelvic floor up as if you're trying not to pee or pass wind (or toot as my sweet granny used to say!)  It is the exact opposite of what you do when you bear down to do a poo, instead of pushing, think hold it in.

How Do I Know If Im Doing it Right? - The best and ONLY way to know if you're actually doing pelvic floor exercises correctly is to get hands on.  You place your index and middle finger into the vagina (you know where the tampon goes) then turn on your pelvic floor and assess whats happening with your muscles. I know, I knowits kinda gross but cmon, do you really want pay someone else to do this for you?  Its not brain surgery girls it just takes a bit of bravery.  Also, a hand held mirror a locked door and some KY jelly seem to help as well.  With your fingers held inside your vagina in a Vshape, you should feel a squeeze AND a lift as you turn on your pelvic floor muscles.  Try holding this for 5 seconds then relax.  Try this a few times to get the hang of it.

If you didn't feel anything happening, you're not activating the pelvic floor muscles properly so keep trying AND palpate using your fingers.  If you felt a muscle flicker then nada, the pelvic floor knows how to activate but has NO endurance so keep practicing to increase your strength.  Count how long you can actually hold a contraction then make that your personal best.  For example if your PB is 3 seconds then this is where you start do 3 second holds x 3 reps, 5 x daily.  If you can hold a contraction for 5 seconds, then do a 5 second holds x 5 reps 5 x daily. Progress your exercises by one second each week with the below schedule.

3 sec hold x 3 reps 5 x daily

4 sec hold x 4 reps 5 x daily

5 sec hold x 5 reps 5 x daily

Each week progress up to

10 sec hold x 10 reps and you only need to do1 X DAILY from then onforever!

Remember use it or lose it, if you don't exercise a muscle it gets weak and functions poorly.  The good news is, if you are doing any type of exercise that focuses on core strengthening, then you're exercising your pelvic floor at the same time i.e. Pilates, some yoga, or my online Body Beyond Birth program.

But don't be too hard on yourself, if you have really given it your all with exercise and your pelvic floor still wont come to the party, then its time to call in reinforcements.  Make sure you get a referral to a pelvic floor physiotherapist, or visit an OB or gynaecologist.  Good luck with your pelvic floor workout mums and spread the word that its normal to do pelvic floor exercises daily, not to wear a pad just in case.
