 YAY! I am so excited to introduce you to my buddy Emy, she is a champ and a real motivator! She has so much passion and drive for what she does and that is to motivate and encourage people to be the best version of themselves while totally whipping your booty in absolutely gorgeous locations on Sydney’s Northern Beaches!!! So who’s New years Resolution is to be healthier? Or loose some weight? Or get fit? Well here is some words from Emy to totally motivate you into achieving your dreams and an awesome giveaway to get you there! ENJOY!

1. Hi Emy. Tell us a bit about yourself and your business. How did it all start? 
Thanks for having me Cass! Well I am a 24 year old Personal Trainer from Sydney’s Northern Beaches who has been involved in Sport my whole life. I have represented Australia and NSW in numerous sports and have always had that zest for the way that being active makes you feel. When I graduated from high school I wanted to give something back, share my knowledge and get others involved in healthy active life styles! I went on to do a Bachelor of Education (to become a High school Physical Education Teacher) however after doing that, felt I was better suited to the one on one/ group life style of Fitness directly so headed off to complete my Personal Training Certificate 3 & 4 in 2010. From here I started my Business Play Fitness, a non intimidating environment where people can come to regain or find their better selves. Both one on one and group outdoor and gym training sessions where having a little bit of fun doesn’t go astray and is a vital part of the mix.

2. We understand that you strive to motivate others to be the best they can be; where do you get your drive?
Knowing how being at your physical best can make you feel is what gets me through every day. There are days when your into it and there are days when you are just not, but sitting around isn’t going to get you any closer to being the better version of yourself. Every day you leave things as they are, is another step backwards from where you want to be, so getting out there and doing something, to reach that end goal. Well that’s all the drive I need.
Personally, it’s all about goal setting, and realising that in order to achieve something that you’ve never had, then you must do something that you’ve never done. Stepping out of your comfort zone and surprising your self, and looking back and being able to say ‘yeah I did that!’

3. What are your non-negotiables when it comes to your diet? 
Sugar. Sugar makes you fat. Simple.
Sugar is converted directly to fat by your liver and destroys your appetite control and suddenly… you just want to eat more of EVERYTHING. For everyone, quitting sugar is hard. Like REALLY hard. The body needs to detoxify itself and find a new source of fuel and energy. This takes a little bit of time to occur, (around a 21 day process to break a habit) but once you have done it, your life will be changed forever.
Eating healthy and enjoying clean foods is key.
Back in the “caveman days” there was no sugar. Everything these days is so highly processed and I believe that if it can survive out of the fridge, if you can’t pronounce the wording on the back of the packaging.. well it probably isn’t good for you.
Allowing yourself one “cheat meal” per week (not a day..a meal) is a reward for your efforts and then straight back on the “fat burning” or “weight control” band wagon!

4. What’s your favourite juice or smoothie?
My favourite Fruit Juice is from a Local Cafe in Avalon “Splurge” (the old Healthy Chef) “The Detox Juice”
Large handful baby spinach leaves

1 whole green apple, chopped with the skin

150 ml fresh apple juice

1 ripe banana (frozen is great )

1 tablespoon flax seed oil or ground linseed

1/2 cup pineapple chopped

juice from 1/2  lemon
tsp finely chopped ginger

1 teaspoon spirulina

5. What’s the biggest nutrition misconception you are always having to clear up for people?
Many clients that I get are convinced that the less you eat, the more weight you lose. However, eating portion controlled meals that are quality foods 5 – 6 times per day will speed your metabolism up and burn fat!
If we are only eating 3 meals per day, the body will think your starving it and hold on to whatever you consumed hours earlier, rather than process the foods, take what it needs and dispose of what’s not necessary for your body to function well.
It takes a little bit of time to develop this habit, however when you are hungry every 2-3 hours on cue. You know the metabolism is working.

6. Do you have any advice or inspiration to send out to any of our readers that are thinking about starting a healthier way of living???
It’s a New Year! New opportunities and time to get rid of EXCUSES.
Use this as an opportunity to do something for yourself.

We have all seen a body transformation or heard of a success story. There is NO reason why this success story can’t be you. Whether it’s shedding a few kilos, doing a yoga challenge, changing your eating, encouraging your children to be healthier, taking up a new hobby. DO IT. Don’t get to this time next year and wish that you’d done more, cause we are living in the now and every day you waste is one that you are not living.
At the end of the day, you don’t need fancy equipment or a gym membership, you just need to get out there with a friend, trainer, club, or pet and get some fresh air, get moving, eat well and watch what happens. Dedication is key, nothing happens over night but we all know that it will happen! There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
