Meet Working Mum Mentor Jo Turner from Mealtimes Without Mayhem

Another wonderful week, another another wonderful Working Mums Mentor! I am super excited to introduce this amazing mentor to you; its the Mealtime Mentor, Jo from Mealtimes Without Mayhem! 

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your Business. How did it all start?

Jo Turner – I’m author of the book  ‘Mealtimes without Mayhem’ as seen on the The Today Show Chl 9 and this my story……..
Whilst juggling a busy professional career and her growing family’s commitments, Jo Turner found there was very little practical advice available for parents on how to best connect with their children, and maximise the time family spends together at mealtimes.
Harnessing her amazing energy, mother’s know-how, and can-do approach, Jo offers a practical guide to finding family harmony and balance in her book ‘Mealtimes without Mayhem’.
‘Mealtimes without Mayhem’ is an invaluable tool to help parents successfully manage meals and use this time to connect and grow together as a family unit.
Written with Jo’s, embracing warmth and humour, this book is driven by a loving mother’s desire to share her own experience and to share the advice of the many experts she has interviewed for this book.
Today’s families can rejoice in the fact that Jo is willing to share her practical approach, tips and resources to help other busy day parents put their own family first.
Jo Turner has had a successful career in finance and banking in Australia and the USA, all built while maintaining a modern busy lifestyle and raising two even busier children. 
She is also the inventor of the ‘Toosh Coosh’ Kids Support Seat that encourages children to sit comfortably at a table during meal times.  It was on this journey that Jo realised the need to highlight the importance of family mealtimes and decided to write ‘Mealtimes without Mayhem – The easy to follow, How to guide book to get families to eat together as a way of connecting”

What do you offer as a mentor in your working mum mentoring sessions?

I’m the mentor for ‘Meal Planning’ offering advice to busy Mum’s how they can get prepared and organised to ensure there are healthy family meals on the table every night of the week!  Mealtimes can be hard to manage and a stressful time for many families so are sometimes avoided but with the right advice and support tools mealtimes can become an enjoyable bonding experience with long term benefits for your children.
As part of the mentoring session I can help with meal planning, building routines and I will share the benefits of sustainable cooking!

What are your top 5 tips for any busy mum?  

Top 5 Tips for Managing Family Mealtimes:

– Good Planning is the key –  get organised and plan what meals your having for the week then put a list on the fridge and the first one home from work can start preparing tonights dinner – too easy!
– Establish a routine – Set an actual mealtime that works both you and your husband and stick to it! Turn off the TV and remove all distractions so you can focus on family mealtime.
– Involve the kids – Kids often love to help set the table and encourage them to help out with the dishes. Make it fun and not a chore – you will be surprised at how well they respond!
– Create family mealtime rules – set the boundaries so your kids learn the rules of behaviour during mealtimes and discuss it with them. Both parents need to back it up and remember to be consistent!
– Communicate – Create conversations that interest your kids and leave work at the office. Talk about what happened in their day, share some family stories and praise them for their behaviour and good listening skills.

Do you have any advice or inspiration to send out to any of our readers that are thinking about starting their own business or doing more of something they love???

Do your research and planning, engage people that can help you and most importantly…..Believe in yourself and your business – if you don’t back yourself 100% then no one else will !!!

If you had half an hour to cook dinner and realised you didn’t have anything planned, what would you cook?

Pasta ……… it’s quick and easy and you can throw just about anything in to make it taste good – tomatoes, mince meat, tuna, chicken, smoked salmon, vegetables and add your favourite sauce – delicious! 

What’s your favourite juice or smoothie?

Smoothie….. you can’t beat a fruit smoothie for a quick healthy snack – my favourite is a mango smoothie with coconut milk and honey!
