24 hours time out at Solar Springs Retreat

On Monday morning, myself and 3 other bloggers met in the city for trip down to the Southern Highlands for 24 hours of time out at the Solar Springs Health Retreat.

Solar Springs Retreat is a gem in the quiet yet beautiful surroundings of Bundanoon that has hosted health retreats for 30 years. They are now going in an exciting new direction – offering lifestyle retreats (including Seasonal Health and Yoga Weekends throughout the year) and also hosting weddings and events. It’s a really beautiful place to recharge and according to one of their resident naturopaths, Nicola, taking just 24 hours out for yourself every 3 months is a great way to unwind, de-stress and rejuvenate… and so we got to test the theory last week, with an overnight stay at the Bundanoon retreat.

When I received the invitation, mother guilt did set in, I had only been back for 2 weeks after my big trip and leaving the kids again didn’t feel right but with the support of my amazing sister and Mumma bear, I was able to escape on a school night… How grateful I am for such incredible people in my life.

Turns out the kids didn’t even miss me and they had a great time with their Aunty Asha, so what happened at Solar Springs???

We arrived on Monday, at lunch time to be greeted with an incredible plant based lunch overlooking the blissful surroundings, we took the time to learn more about each other and learn about how Solar Springs runs as well as enjoy ever single bite of our delicious meal without being interrupted by little people.

After lunch, we had time to settle in to our own rooms, each with ensuite and king size bed. A king sized bed all to myself…I really was in heaven.
We had a tour of the property; think warm pool and hot tub looking over the mountains, fitness studio, spa treatments, naturopathic consults, homemade teas and quiet rooms (a room that is silent, know one is aloud to say a word. Cool huh?).

We spent the afternoon with Nicola, the naturopath chatting about wellbeing as she shared her tips to staying well this winter.

After our own personal naturopathic consult with Nicola, we got to speak with the resident life coach about taking time to switch off and some simple meditations we can put into practice in day to day life as a mum.
Dinner was a meal of 3 courses by French hatted chef Francois. Hearty, nourishing and all types of delicious.
It was then early to bed for me to enjoy an uninterrupted nights sleep, something that can be hard to come by as a mum.

We arose to stunning weather, I went down to the early morning stretch class in the gym. It felt so good, it reminded me just how important stretching is and how much we don’t give ourselves time to do this as mums. Stretching is so important, I’m hoping to keep at it when I’m home.

Breakfast was a yummy buffet; I had eggs, mushrooms and baked tomatoes with herbal tea. The naturopath on site makes great tea blends that are available to drink throughout the day in the common lounge room.
We enjoyed a bush walk to the canyon after brekky, we chatted, shared stories and chatted some more. It was nice learning more about the other guests and where they come from.

To finish off our stay, I was treated to a facial, and let me tell you, it was the most amazing facial I have EVER had. My beauty therapist was so experienced, the massage was so incredible and I came out so zen and glowing. I can’t rave on enough about it, it was the best.

All blissed out, we made our way back to reality feeling at peace and ready to conquer life again. It was a great experience and I would really recommend Solar Springs Retreat for anyone that needs a reboot or would love some time out. It’s a beautiful place.
